Why Are Fuller Lips So Much in Demand?
Full lips have always been considered beautiful, youthful, and sensual. Those are precisely the reasons that Lip Enhancement procedures have become so popular.
Lip Augmentation can be achieved either non-surgically or surgically depending on whether you’re looking for a temporary or permanent solution for fuller lips.
Lip Fillers
Latest Regulations Prohibit Australian Doctors Using The Term ‘Lip Filler’ in Advertising
On 7 March 2024, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia’s government authority responsible for assessing, monitoring, and regulating medicines and medical devices, reinforced its regulations on the advertising of cosmetic injectables.
TGA reminded doctors that Anti Wrinkle Injections, Dermal Fillers, Fat Dissolving Injections, and Lip Fillers, are Schedule 4 Prescription Medicines and therefore, are not permitted in the advertising of cosmetic health services. Also prohibited are before/after photographs and prices of such treatments. The TGA has the power to prosecute and fine clinics contravening these regulations.
In effect, this means that previously used terms such as ‘Lip Fillers’, Dermal Fillers’, ‘Wrinkle Reducing Injections’, ‘Anti Wrinkle Injections’, etc. are not permitted on the reasoning that those terms would result in a reasonable consumer understanding that the terms promote the use or supply of a Prescription Medicine.
On its website, TGA stated:
“Either directly or indirectly, you cannot make any reference in your advertisement for cosmetic injection services to prescription-only substances or to product trade names of such products. This includes acronyms, nicknames, abbreviations and hashtags, which may be taken by a consumer as a reference to a specific prescription-only medicine or substance.
This includes:
- anti-wrinkle injections
- dermal fillers
- injectable products used for improvement of the appearance of submental fat.”
Accordingly, in compliance with TGA’s regulations, Sydney Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic regrets to advise that it can no longer provide detailed information on its website regarding Lip Filler treatments, nor showcase its ‘before & after’ photographs of such treatments.
Henceforth, all detailed information on Lip Fillers will only be available at a consultation.
Reassuringly, our clinic will continue to provide its full range of non-surgical procedures under the highest of professional standards by ‘doctors only’ as it has always done over the last 30 years!
Natural Lip Shapes and Volumes
Lips come in a wide range of natural shapes and sizes. It is essential that you clearly communicate to our Cosmetic Doctor prior to any treatment, the size and shape you wish your lips to be.
- Full Lips: the upper and lower lips are plump and equal in volume.
- Heavy Upper Lip: the upper lip is noticeably fuller than the lower lip.
- Heavy Lower Lip: the lower lip is considerably fuller than the upper lip.
- Round Lips: lips that are more round in shape.
- Wide Lips: lips that are spread out and deliver a broader smile.
- Thin Lips: lips that have thin pink surfaces. Sometimes difficult to enhance non-surgically.
- Heart-Shaped Lips: lips that have a pronounced Cupid’s Bow on the upper lip and a narrower bottom lip.
- Bow-Shaped Lips: these are full lips with an upper lip that resembles a bow tie.
Your Lip Enhancement Consultation
Sydney Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic is a ‘doctor only’ clinic and does not have Nurse Injectors. Accordingly, all Lip Consultations prior to any treatment are with our Cosmetic Doctor who will determine each of the following prior to any treatment:
- Your natural lip shape, what you wish to enhance, and to what degree.
- Your suitability: for example, thin lips may not have enough pink surface for enhancement in which case, Lip Lift Surgery may be the better option.
- The best technique to achieve your desired result: our clinic offers both Needle and Cannula techniques for enhancement.
- Your preference for local anaesthetic versus ‘numbing cream’. Bear in mind that lips are richly supplied by nerves and are sensitive to pain. Unlike nurses who are not permitted to inject local anaesthetics, our Cosmetic Doctor can make your lip injections pain-free by administering a ‘nerve block’ similar to what dentists use.
- The best product to deliver your desired result. Some clinics bulk-buy one product in large quantities at a discounted price and use it for all facial treatments. At Sydney Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic, we won’t do that – our focus is on quality and patient results, and we’ll use whichever product will best deliver the lips you’re after!
Can I Claim a Medicare Rebate or Private Health Insurance Rebate?
Unfortunately, NO.
Being cosmetic procedures, Lip Treatments are not eligible for a Medicare Rebate, nor can you claim on Private Health Insurance.
